"China is a practitioner, promoter, beneficiary and advocate of multilateralism. And it is a common view for most of the nations worldwide to expand cooperation and promote co-development," remarked Chau Chak Wing, president of the Australia China Friendship and Exchange Association and chair of the Asia-Pacific Region of World Leadership Alliance-Club de Madrid President's Circle.

"China is rapidly globalizing its industries by encouraging its higher-value-adding industries, such as power generation, construction equipment, and telecommunications systems, to supply overseas projects in the Belt and Road Initiative and to invest in foreign market operations," it said.

"China hopes to work with all parties to seek common development and share prosperity as the initiative proposed in 2013 aims to build trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient Silk Road trade routes," said Ma Wensheng, deputy secretary-general of the Charhar Institute think tank.

"China is facilitating global trade through the Belt and Road Initiative. What we have seen in the trade frictions between China and the US is a negative side where people say global trade causes problems. You need certain rules to the game so that both sides of trade feel they benefit," he said.

"China has very, very impressive infrastructure — high-speed rail that would be an asset to the United States. But what they have succeeded in doing is going from very, very human capital poor to one of the better educated emerging economies," he said.
